We can’t wait for you to join our world and to share with you our beautiful peaceful Normande hill!
Since the arrival of our first child five years ago, we’ve been living in our family home nestled just a few minutes’ walk down the hill from the guesthouse. The idea of sharing this peaceful retreat, perched atop the hill, with guests from France and across the globe has truly captured our hearts. We’re eager to meet new faces, introduce them to the enchanting region of Normandy, and welcome them into our beautifully renovated guesthouse, a labor of love crafted by our own hands.
Le Clos du haut guesthouse was part of an old dairy farm. It dates from the 19th century and was owned by the same family for 4 generations. At the time, the entire area was surrounded by self-sufficient farms.
The guesthouse itself was the farmers’ primary residence; It was also the workshop in which the dairy products were produced. The house, in which we live in, a bit further down the hill was the farm’s apple cider pressoir.
The dairy products that were produced here were brought to the village of Pont l’évêque by the farm’s horses, to be sold at the market.
It took more than three years to fully renovate the house. We enlisted the expertise of local artisans for part of the project and took on the rest ourselves, with the help of family and friends. It was an exhausting process, yet it was punctuated by moments of great joy.
Our goal was to preserve the best aspects of the old house—its authentic spirit—while modernizing its foundation and amenities. We kept the original fireplaces, brick walls, and terracotta tile floors, completely overhauling the rest of the house.
During the renovation, we opted for the highest quality, sustainable materials. This included oak timber framing, hemp and lime walls, natural stone flooring, original bricks, zellige tiles, ceramic mosaics, and hand-mounted woven wood blinds, with most components assembled in France.
